npcee ("we", "our", or "the app") is a social exploration game developed by Xanduri. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address (used for authentication and login codes)
- Display name and username you choose during registration
- Sign-in provider information (Google, Apple, or email)
Profile Information
- Avatar customization choices (appearance, clothing, accessories)
- Interests and personality quiz responses you provide during onboarding
Location Data
- Foreground location: Used to show your own position on your personal map, unlock neighborhoods, and discover nearby landmarks.
- Background location: Used to detect proximity to other players for StreetPass-style encounters when the app is not actively open. You can disable this at any time in your device settings.
- We store a general grid cell identifier for proximity matching — not precise GPS coordinates of your real-time position.
- Your location is never shown to other players. Other users cannot see where you are or where you have been. Encounters are detected automatically by proximity, and only the fact that an encounter occurred is recorded — not the location.
Gameplay Data
- Encounter history (which players you've crossed paths with)
- Quest progress, XP, tokens, and inventory
- Unlocked neighborhoods and visited landmarks
2. How We Use Your Information
- Authentication: To create and secure your account.
- Core gameplay: To power your personal map exploration, quests, and proximity-based encounter detection. Your location is used only on your own device and for server-side proximity matching — it is never displayed to other players.
- AI-generated dialogue: Encounter data (player names, interests, personality traits) is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate unique conversation dialogue. No location data is sent to the AI service.
- Notifications: To alert you about new encounters when the app is in the background (if you opt in).
3. Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not use third-party analytics or tracking services.
- We do not display advertisements.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
- We do not collect health, financial, or contact list data.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication), hosted in the United States. We use industry-standard security practices including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Firebase Security Rules to restrict data access
- Server-side validation for all sensitive operations
- Rate limiting on authentication endpoints

- Delete your account: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Account → Delete Account within the app.
- Disable background location: You can revoke background location permission at any time through your device's Settings app. The app will continue to work for map features but will not detect encounters in the background.
- Disable notifications: You can turn off push notifications through your device settings.
7. Children's Privacy
npcee is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above.
